Want to submit but not sure what to write? Here are some prompts to get your creative juices flowing.

1) Start a story with one of these sentences:

– Shakespeare is stalking me…

– He opened the white door…

– I once knew a man…

– As a kid, I…

– Be careful what you wish for…

– I have always liked peaches…

– “Why?’

– Her life had turned backwards…

–  Twenty-four hours before he died…

2) Write a set of six word stories- a famous example:  For sale, baby shoes, never worn.

3) Your character has just won the lottery.  What do they do?  What happens to them?

4) Describe the first person who broke your heart.  If you had a chance to take revenge on them, would you?

5) Invent a character that must choose between the lesser of two evils.

6) Invent a character whose life is governered by Murphy’s Law (that is, anything that can go wrong, will).

7) Take the reader behind the wheel with the worst driver you’ve ever known.

8 ) Describe the secret life of an ordinary car salesman.

9) There are approximately 3500 members in the Flat Earth society (people who insist the Earth is not round).  Write about one of them.

10) Write a locked room mystery. (In a traditional locked room mystery, a dead body is discovered in an empty room that has been locked from the inside).
